Our history

A lot has happened to our company over the decades. But one thing has actually remained unchanged: the warm, accessible atmosphere of a real family business. Here we list some of the great moments in Grijsen's history.

1989: the beginning

In 1989, former contractor Henny Grijsen started selling street furniture from Germany on the Dutch market. Business went well and from the early 1990s, Grijsen was the only company in the Netherlands allowed to represent the leading French brand Sineu Graff. In the following years, more major brands followed and Grijsen also started developing its own products.

1995: a new standard

In 1995, Eric Kruisselbrink, product designer at Grijsen, designed a new litter bin for the municipality of Leiden: the Constructo. With this pioneering design, Grijsen set a new standard in litter bins. Today, it is impossible to imagine the Dutch streetscape without the Constructo.

2001: the first custom-made project

In 2001, Grijsen developed a completely custom-made project for the first time. It involved a bench of no less than 33 metres, executed in a combination of stainless steel and 100% FSC hardwood. The bench stands in The Hague and still looks picture perfect.

2011: the second generation

In 2011, Patrick Grijsen succeeded his father Henny as managing director. Patrick had been co-owner since 2002 and knew the company inside out when he took over.
