Grijsen creates unique outdoor object ‘Amfi’
The outdoor object Amfi was recently unveiled in Amsterdam: a unique ensemble of seating elements that Amvest donated to the Municipality of Amsterdam in honour of Amvest's 25th anniversary and the city's 750th anniversary.
Grijsen designed and created the furniture in collaboration with Strootman Landscape Architects.

Meet, experience and connect
Amvest wanted to donate street furniture that invites people to meet. With Amfi, we have created a place where people can come together in a natural way — to sit, play or experience something. The various elements can be arranged in different ways: as a grandstand, seating area or open space. This allows Amfi to adapt effortlessly to its surroundings and use.
A reference to Amsterdam
The design subtly references the city itself. The wooden posts on which the seating elements rest refer to the foundations of Amsterdam — thousands of wooden posts on which the city is literally built.
Each element stands firmly on its own, but together they form a whole: a beautiful metaphor for the city and its inhabitants.
First location: Cruquius Amsterdam
The first Amfi has been given a place in the Cruquius district, where Amvest's office is also located.
We are proud that Amvest commissioned us to realise this design, thereby contributing to a valuable gift for the city of Amsterdam.
