Waste separation with the new Condual waste bin in Almelo

The redevelopment of the city center area in Almelo will return the port of yesteryear to the heart of the city. In the Haven Zuid area, the municipality needed new waste bins, whereby separating waste was important. "In other parts of the center we had already done a trial with the separate waste collection", Arjen van Hofwegen of the municipality of Almelo begins to tell. "The problem there was that the openings were not next to each other. Sometimes people would throw their plastic bottle in the wrong fraction because they hadn't seen that the PMD section was on the other side. So we wanted a bin with two openings next to each other so people could see at a glance that the waste is being separated."

This is how the municipality eventually came into contact with Grijsen. The litterbin applied in Almelo is a combination of two existing litter bins from Grijsen's assortment. "The existing bins have been combined to meet the wishes of the municipality", says Severin Vrogten from Grijsen. "We did not yet have a bin with two separate fractions that can be accessed from both sides." Grijsen is very pleased with the result and has decided to add the bin to its range. In total, some twenty litter bins were placed in the Haven Zuid area at the end of last year. There are very conscious colors used for the furniture. Van Hofwegen: "The part for plastic is orange because the domestic containers for plastic have the same color."

Van Hofwegen is happy with the final result. "They have become very nice waste bins, very functional, with a large inner container of one hundred liters. It also fits well with the rest of the street furniture." The council is keen to set a good example to residents by separating waste in outdoor areas. "From a social point of view, it is good to show citizens that we are jointly responsible for the proper separation of waste."
