A renewed market square for the German town of Fröndenberg
A few weeks ago the new market square of the German town of Fröndenberg was opened. The redesign of the market square aimed to create an oasis of calm. Where once motorists were the winners, now pedestrians have to be given all the space in the center. The center also had to become more of a coherent whole. A real oasis of quiet needs a green environment. Therefore planters and plant-seat combinations were included in the design. The use of plants in the public space provides an extra atmosphere. In addition, it provides a more natural environment. The placement of these planters is in line with the desire to create a green environment.

Newly designed planters
The design of the planters did not yet exist but was specially designed according to the wishes of the architect. To achieve the desired coherence, the furniture from the Solid bench series was taken into account. This makes the design fit in seamlessly with the other Solid furniture on the square. Besides the planters, there are also plant benches delivered. These are combinations of a planter and a seating element. The planters have been incorporated into the design of a Plane Solid pouf, creating a beautiful plant-sit combination. The visitors of the market square can sit down around the plants. The planter alone immediately provides both seating and a greener environment.

Various seating elements
Besides the plant benches, Grijsen has also placed other seating elements. At the entrance of the square, there is a custom-made bench placed. The wooden mattresses are placed on an existing concrete edge. When one sits down on the bench one can look out over the lively market square. The eye-catcher of this project is the two wide Plane Solid benches with back rest. Both benches are over six meters long and about two and a half meters wide. So there is plenty of room for visitors to rest on these benches. One can sit comfortably because of the backrests, but stretching out on the benches is certainly also possible! The benches are placed next to a fountain and under a large tree that was left standing during the redesign. This fountain and tree provide a lively image on the square.
