Fresh benches and planters give shopping center color again
Shopping center Woensel (WoensXL) is the largest district shopping center in Eindhoven. Partly due to the results of a visitor survey, the shopping center was given new, colorful, and playful street furniture, financed by the shopkeepers and landlords themselves.

Shopping center Woensel has about 150 shops and attracts about six million visitors annually. Frank Reemers is the center manager of the area. A customer survey among visitors gave Reemers some interesting insights. "We conducted a survey several years ago because we were curious about how people experienced the shopping center. The research showed that visitors found the shopping center too austere and colorless. We then used the results to think about solutions," says Reemers.
Green and colorful
The decision that there should be more green was quickly made. In addition, the street furniture could also use some color. "However, money was needed to realize this, from the municipality we could not get funding. Over a while, we collected money from all the shopkeepers and landlords. From that money, we eventually paid for the redecoration and realized it." There were planters and benches from the municipality in the shopping center. They had to be replaced by more robust and colorful ones.
Planters and furniture
For the new street furniture was knocked at the door of Grijsen park & street design. Reemers: "When it became clear that the budget was complete, I started looking on the internet for the right supplier. During the discussions we then had with Grijsen, we arrived at a great solution for the street furniture of the shopping center." A total of thirty benches were installed and 21 easy-to-move planters. "The advantage is that we can easily link the benches and the planters. That way we can also easily change the situation if we want to put a bench somewhere else," says Reemers.
Playful character
One of the reasons why Reemers chose Grijsen is that the company does not only have straight benches in its range. "We wanted to have a graceful and playful model. We also chose planters with curves, because we deliberately did not want an angular version in the streetscape. The greenery is also applied playfully. The greenery should immediately catch the eye when you walk through one of the streets of the shopping center." Reemers knows well what the strength of Grijsen is. "The personal contact where people think along to achieve the most beautiful result. It is a professional company with a lot of knowledge. We immediately got a good feeling from the discussions."
