In June the reconstruction of the Bolwerk Sint Jan in the center of 's-Hertogenbosch was completed. Grijsen fitted out the roof of Bolwerk Sint Jan, which is a small, tree-rich city park, with various seating elements from our Pure line. Benches with and without backrests have been placed. But the most eye-catching elements are the two picnic sets. At these large picnic sets, you can enjoy this cultural-historical place. The various benches of the Pure line are characterized by their robust, sturdy, and natural appearance.
The Sint Jan Bolwerk forms part of the development plan for the Fortifications 'Reinforced Den Bosch'. The fortifications have an important economic significance for 's-Hertogenbosch. Bolwerk Sint Jan is situated between the central station and the inner city and is intended to become a cultural and tourist departure point for visitors entering the city from the station. The information center Bolwerk Sint Jan has been realized on the site of the old medieval city gate.
The reconstruction of the former bulwark on the remains of the old wall sections is intended to make the old city entrance to 's-Hertogenbosch liveable again. The Buitenhaven is also part of the development plan for the Fortifications. Grijsen has placed tree grids here. These three grids are unique and a fine example of Grijsen's customized approach. The old trees had to be preserved and there had to be more space for the sidewalk and parking cars. The solution is tree grids that look like sardine cans, made of Corten steel.
The open part of the grid protects the tree by its upright edge and ensures that cars cannot park too close to the tree. The closed part of the tree grid has become part of the pavement. Because each tree was at a different distance from the surrounding buildings, each grid was measured and constructed separately. The client for Bolwerk Sint Jan and Buitenhaven is the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch. The design for the city park on the roof of Bolwerk and the tree grids in the Buitenhaven is by landscape architect Martien van Osch of Buro Oslo in Berlicum.
