Renewed outdoor space at Shell Campus in The Hague
The Shell Campus in The Hague has been transformed in recent years. As part of this renovation, the outdoor space has been enriched with stylish and durable street furniture. The furniture has been placed both at the front and inside of the building.

A monumental building
The C30 building of the Shell Campus on Carel van Bylandtlaan is a national monument dating back to 1917. Covering 25,000 square metres, this building has served as an office building for more than a century. The recent renovation was essential to future-proof the building, not forgetting the surrounding outdoor space.
Outdoor area at the front
A series of unique benches were developed for the front of building C30 in collaboration with Posad Maxwan. A total of 11 benches have been installed, forming about 50 metres of seating elements. The variation in designs, with or without backrests, allows visitors and employees to comfortably relax or work outdoors. Here and there, the benches are equipped with handy laptop tables, which are incorporated into the backrest by means of a finger joint. High-quality materials such as tropical hardwood and stainless steel have been chosen so that the furniture has a long life. Two Quadrat Duo litter bins have also been installed. These feature lasered text “PMD” and “REST” to indicate the relevant waste flow. These bins, like the benches outside, are made of stainless steel 316.
East Courtyard
The indoor garden was designed with the comfort and well-being of Shell employees in mind. Six picnic sets and several benches from the Quadrat series were delivered, with three different types of benches designed based on this series from the standard range. The use of black (RAL 9005) combined with warm wooden accents creates a modern look that perfectly complements the refurbished interior of building C30.
A straight bench and two variants with a curved shape were designed for the courtyard garden. One curved bench involves a tub of about four metres, with the left half of the bench having a backrest and armrests on either side. The other curved bench boasts a length of no less than six metres, with the middle part featuring a backrest and armrests. The seven straight benches, placed to the side against the greenery, are all fully equipped with a comfortable backrest and armrests at both ends of the outdoor bench.
The benches in the East Courtyard feature transverse wooden beams, which is an adaptation from the standard Quadrat bench. This piece of customisation shows how street furniture can be adapted to specific client requirements, creating a unique and comfortable outdoor space for courtyard visitors.
Successful collaboration
This project shows how craftsmanship and expertise can work together to create an outdoor space that invites people to meet and relax. Working well together has created a place where people enjoy coming together and relaxing. The street furniture fits nicely with the campus and is also practical.
