Willem Sluyterstraat transformed into a green study environment for Utrecht students
Willem Sluyterstraat, located near Vondellaan in Utrecht (NL), has undergone an attractive transformation to improve the quality of life and create a space for students. Grijsen, a specialist in street furniture, played a role in this project by supplying several benches and a picnic table.

Reason for the renovation
Willem Sluyterstraat is flanked by the Grafisch Lyceum and ROC Midden Nederland. Previously, the square was mainly paved, which resulted in an uncomfortably hot environment in summer. Students sought relief elsewhere, which sometimes led to nuisance. The council recognised the importance of a good place for young people to spend time and decided on a large-scale redevelopment.
The green design
Working closely with schools and local residents, the council has created a new design for Willem Sluyterstraat. The focus was on greening and creating spaces for people to meet. No less than 700 square metres of green space has been added. To ensure comfortable seating, Grijsen supplied eight Pure benches (1.5 metres and 3.0 metres) and one picnic table. These benches fit perfectly with the sustainability and greening of the area. They have been independently tested and awarded the NLGreenlabel A quality mark, indicating that they are considered strong and sustainable products.
