Optimal enjoyment on the renovated Boulevard Paulus Loot in Zandvoort
The redevelopment of the picturesque Boulevard Paulus Loot in Zandvoort is a prime example of the harmonious collaboration between landscape architecture and high-quality street furniture. Grijsen park and street design played a significant role in the renovation of Boulevard Paulus Loot in Zandvoort. As a specialist in premium street furniture, Grijsen was responsible for furnishing the renewed Boulevard Paulus Loot, the southernmost part of Zandvoort's boulevard.

A fusion of expertise
In close synergy with the landscape architects of Bosch Slabbers, Grijsen helped create the concept for a unique outdoor space. While Bosch Slabbers took on the large-scale design of the seaside resort, Grijsen provided the street furniture for the renovated boulevard. Emphasis was placed on specially designed custom furniture, ranging from comfortable outdoor benches and seating islands to functional bicycle racks, decking, and information pillars. Each element was designed with attention to detail and crafted from high-quality materials.
Comfort and viewpoints
Seating areas were a crucial element for the outdoor space of this North Holland seaside resort. Sufficient places to sit comfortably were required. In addition to regular seating areas, various spots were created where people can recline and enjoy the panoramic view.
Several viewpoints have been created along the boulevard, equipped with comfortable benches, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the view and relax. These viewpoints feature wooden decking with railings and comfortable outdoor benches. Here, visitors can enjoy the North Sea view both sitting and standing.
Besides the regular outdoor benches, which were also custom-designed, five seating islands have been installed. These seating islands consist of natural stone edging with wooden mattresses. The seating surfaces are made of FSC 100% certified Bilinga wood and seamlessly connect with the natural stone. Another feature of these seating islands is the integrated LED lighting, which atmospherically illuminates the furniture in the evening hours.
Busy summer days
As the seaside resort with the long boulevard in the Netherlands, Zandvoort is also a popular destination for day-trippers. Zandvoort is a much-visited beach town, especially during the summer months. People travel to Zandvoort by public transport, car, and certainly by bicycle. Therefore, it's important that the public space offers ample opportunities for parking bicycles. The bicycle racks on and around the Paulus Loot boulevard are custom-designed. The racks are made of FSC 100% oak wood with a stainless steel crossbar.
In the same style, about 300 so-called dune path poles have been placed. These dune path poles are positioned at various locations on the boulevard, for example, along the roadway or the walking path. The poles guide visitors through the public space.
In addition to the bicycle racks and dune path poles, nine information pillars have been installed. These information pillars are designed in the same style as the dune path poles and bicycle racks, ensuring they perfectly match the other furniture. The pillar consists of three uprights, neatly kept apart by threaded rods. The information pillars are used by the various beach pavilions as advertising boards, making them easily recognizable from the street.
Community involvement
Grijsen not only worked closely with Bosch Slabbers but also with the local community of Zandvoort. By integrating input from residents and visitors into the design process, it was ensured that the boulevard and its accompanying street furniture are not only visually appealing but also meet the needs and expectations of those who will regularly use the furniture: the residents of Zandvoort. For instance, the number of benches in the green strip was reduced, while the number of benches along the sea line was increased. According to the initial plan, walking public would pass in front of the benches, obstructing the free view for seated visitors. In the revised design, some benches were relocated to maintain an unobstructed view of the North Sea.
An innovative vision on sustainability
Grijsen's street furniture not only contributes to functionality but also exemplifies innovation and sustainability. The integration of energy-efficient LED lighting in the seating elements contributes to a unique atmosphere and extends the use of the boulevard into the evening hours. However, sustainability at Grijsen goes beyond lighting; the use of high-quality materials and thoughtful designs ensures longevity and minimizes ecological impact.
A new chapter
The results speak for themselves. The renovated boulevard has achieved a new level of appeal and experience. The boulevard now serves as a vibrant meeting place where visitors can enjoy the landscape, the beach, and the magnificent views both during the day and in the evening.
